Dengue Fright (1/3)

This is the first of three posts where I share our frightening experience when my eldest DD suffered from Dengue Fever exactly a week ago.
----
It was last Friday when my eldest DD came home very tired and with a headache. I was in the office when she called complaining from severe headache. I knew then that something was wrong. I was still hoping that the headache was simply because she lacks some sleep. I told her to drink plenty of water and to take a nap. After an hour, J called, informing me that our eldest DD has a high grade fever (39.5C). I instructed our "nana" to give DD 10ml of paracetamol.

I rushed home worried but got relieved when DD was already feeling a bit better when I got home. The paracetamol took effect immediately. Unfortunately, after an hour, the high grade fever returned.

I stayed up with DD the entire night giving her sponge bath every 30 minutes to help relieve her body from the very high temperature. I gave her lots of water to keep her hydrated.
The night passed longer than usual. I spent the night praying and hoping that my DD will get better soon.

The high grade fever did not go down the entire evening, but rather it even went as high as 41.5C. I panicked. I gave her a quick bath to lower the temperature. But to no avail. That's when I decided to bring her to the Emergency Room of The Medical City.

When we got into the ER, the doctors instructed for a CBC and Dengue Test to be done. Both are routine blood tests that they want the patients to undergo for those whose high grade fever has been on and off for 2 days straight.

I wasn't worried a bit. I somehow felt that the fever is only due to a Viral Infection and nothing serious. We waited for an hour for the results.

I received the surprise of my life when the results came out and the doctor announced to us that our DD is positive with "Dengue".
